Route description

The last section of our road trip, which was mainly around Scotland, had us coming back down the Pennines and landing in the Forest of Bowland for a couple of nights.

We stopped in a camping yurt at The Red Pump Inn and on Friday morning I set out for a short River Hodder walk.

I chose a shorter route as we'd done lots of walking during the week, and also the weather was atrocious thanks to Srorm Ellen.

I parked near Higher Hodder Bridge and walked down through a fairly overgrown track towards Sagar Fold.  After meeting the road for short while I went through a farm towards Moyser Wood.  Note here that there there is no real visible track but if you stay in the middle of the field you will eventually find the stile.

The track meets the road again and a few yards on you arrive a Lower Hodder Bridge, where you will also fine Cromwell's Bridge.

After crossing there is a good track on the right (borrowing a section of the Tolkien Trail) where the route now follows the River Hodder upstream .

After passing the weir the path then takes you through woodland and across a number of footbridges before emerging at Higher Hodder Bridge near Sagar Wood.

Typically the sun decided to make an appearance after an hour of it absolutely lashing it down!

This River Hodder walk was an enjoyable ramble in the warm summer rain.
