Lancashire's hidden upland
The Forest of Bowland is a landscape of gritstone fells, deep wooded cloughs and heather moorland straddling Lancashire and North Yorkshire. "Forest" here means a royal hunting ground, not woodland — it's open, wild country criss-crossed with quiet paths and old packhorse routes.
Explore Bowland has been documenting walks and days out across the area for over a decade. Every guide comes from boots actually on the ground.
