Just outside of the Forest of Bowland boundary is the lovely little village of Clapham, which is a fantastic base to explore northern Bowland and the Yorkshire Dales. Today we went into the Dales to visit the surreal and beautiful Norber Erratics.
Setting off from Clapham you make our way up north up Long Lane (Track) which sits bellow Thwaite Fell. Eventually you reach a gate onto the fells and head in more easterly direction towards a cairn on Long Scar. From here it's a change of direction towards Norber. The tracks are a little unclear and we wondered off course at one stage but eventually you'll find your way to the Norber Erratics boulder field.
The boulders are a spectacular site, huge rocks balancing on limestone which has eroded over the c12,000 since the ice melted away after the ice age.
After you've spent some time enjoying the boulders make your way back down to the Pennine Bridleway and head west to Clapham.
