Nicky Nook walk

Map

I did this extended Nicky Nook circular walk with my brother, Craig, in May 2017.  I don’t seem to be able to find a recorded map, so I’ve had to retrace our steps by the photos, but I think it is pretty accurate.  Just make sure you have your own map with you, as always.

We park on Snow Hill Lane as always, where there is space for say 20 cars. Then it is straight up to Nicky Nook, passing the tarn on your left.  Admire the panoramic views (weather permitting), and descend towards Grizedale Reservoir.

Usually I would turn right at the fingerpost sign but today we went left to double up the distance of the walk.  Follow the track along Grizedale Brook until you get to the road and turn right.  After a little while there is a track on your right-hand side, which ascends up slightly, along the other side of the reservoir.

The slight climb actually takes you as high as Nick Nook trig, but it’s not really noticeable, and the remainder of the walk is a pleasant amble through farmland until you get back to the road after Pedder’s Wood.

This Nicky Nook circular is a super walk, which extends the usual 3 mile circular.
