Bowland Knotts is a rocky outcrop set next to Keasden Road, between St0cks Reservoir and Clapham, at the north-east end of the Forest of Bowland. The trig point is just a short walk from the road, but if you want a more challenging route you park down in Gisburn Forest or Cross of Greet.
The track loosely follows the north side of the outcrop and the views at the top across Lancashire today are spectacular, especially with the snow.
Lancashire or Yorkshire?
Nowadays Bowland Knotts lies right on the Lancashire / Yorkshire county boundary but in 1974 it lay firmly within the West Riding of Yorkshire. This all changed in 1974 when Lancashire gained all of the Forest of Bowland but lost parts of Cumbria along with the cities of Liverpool and Manchester which became Merseyside and Greater Manchester.
